What Are Inconel Pipes?
Inconel pipes are pipes made from Inconel, a family of nickel-chromium-based alloys designed for severe heat and corrosion. Nickel makes up about 45% to 72% of the metal, and chromium, iron, molybdenum and other elements are added for each job.
Each element has a role:
- Nickel keeps the alloy tough and resists chloride cracking.
- Chromium builds a tight oxide skin that resists scaling and oxidising acids.
- Molybdenum and niobium add strength and resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
- Aluminium gives scale resistance at very high temperature.
Pipes are made seamless, pierced from a solid billet, or welded from plate or strip. After forming, they are annealed so the alloy gets its full strength and corrosion resistance. Pipes are ordered by nominal pipe size (NPS) and schedule.

Inconel Pipes Size and Weight Chart
Weight depends on OD, wall thickness and alloy density. Inconel 625 has a density of about 8.44 g/cm³, so we use this formula:
OD and wall are in mm. Example: NPS 4 Sch 40S is (114.3 − 6.02) × 6.02 × 0.02652 = 17.29 kg/m. Multiply by length for total weight. For other grades, swap in the factor from the second table below.
| NPS | OD (mm) | Sch 10S (kg/m) | Sch 40S (kg/m) | Sch 80S (kg/m) | Sch 160 (kg/m) |

Available Sizes, Dimensions and Schedules
Inconel Pipes follow ASME B36.19M for Sch 10S, 40S and 80S, and ASME B36.10M for Sch 160. A schedule is a wall-thickness code, so for the same OD a higher number means a thicker wall. Other sizes and walls can be quoted on request. Confirm the wall against the design code, the operating temperature and your corrosion allowance.

Inconel Pipes FAQs
Common questions about Inconel pipe grades, temperature service, welding, dimensions, and supply.
Which Inconel grade should I choose?
Choose Inconel 625 for seawater, offshore and sour-gas service, and Inconel 600 for general heat and chloride exposure. Choose 601 for hot, oxidising gas, 617 for the highest temperatures, and 690 for nitric acid, steam and sulphur-laden gas.
How do Inconel 600 and 601 differ?
Inconel 601 has more chromium and added aluminium, which gives it better oxidation and scale resistance at very high temperature. Inconel 600 resists chlorides and suits general heat and chemical duty.
When should I choose Inconel 625 over Inconel 600?
Choose 625 when you need higher strength or better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, as in seawater and sour gas. Inconel 600 costs less and suits milder duty.
Which Inconel grade handles the highest temperatures?
Inconel 601 and 617 are the usual choices at the top of the temperature range. 601 is picked for oxidation and scale resistance, and 617 for strength under load. Check the allowable stress at your metal temperature in the design code.
How should I weld Inconel pipes?
Use TIG welding with a matching filler, such as ERNiCrMo-3 for Inconel 625, ERNiCr-3 for Inconel 600, ERNiCrFe-11 for Inconel 601, ERNiCrFe-7 for Inconel 690 and ERNiCrCoMo-1 for Inconel 617. Keep the joint clean of oil, paint and marking ink, and use low heat input.
What sizes and schedules can I order?
The tables above cover NPS 1/2 to 12 in Sch 10S, 40S, 80S and 160. Other sizes and walls can be quoted on request, and popular sizes sit in ready stock, subject to availability.
What tolerances apply to OD and wall?
ASTM B829 sets them for seamless pipe and ASTM B775 for welded pipe. The limits depend on pipe size.
How do I calculate the weight of an order?
Use Weight (kg/m) = (OD − Wall) × Wall × factor, with OD and wall in mm and the factor from the grade table above. Multiply by length and quantity. Real weight varies slightly with wall tolerance.
What affects the price of Inconel Pipes?
Grade is the main factor, because nickel, chromium, molybdenum and cobalt prices move the cost. Size, wall, seamless or welded form, testing, quantity, inspection and freight also count.
