What Are Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes?

Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes are made from a nickel-chromium-iron alloy designed to perform well in high-temperature and corrosive environments. The material contains a high percentage of nickel and around 14–17% chromium, which helps it resist oxidation and maintain strength when exposed to heat. It is also known as Alloy 600 and is identified by UNS N06600 and EN material number 2.4816.

These pipes and tubes are available in seamless and welded forms to suit different industrial requirements. Pipes are commonly used in process piping systems, while tubes are widely used in heat exchangers, condensers, furnaces and thermal processing equipment. Their resistance to heat and corrosion makes them suitable for chemical processing, power generation, aerospace and other industries that operate under demanding conditions.

Why Choose Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes?

Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes are suitable for industrial environments where high temperatures, oxidation and corrosive conditions can affect material performance. Their nickel-chromium composition helps maintain strength and resist oxidation during prolonged heat exposure. These properties make the alloy useful in equipment that operates under demanding thermal and chemical conditions.

  • High-Temperature Resistance: Maintains useful mechanical properties across a wide range of elevated temperatures.
  • Oxidation Resistance: Forms a protective oxide layer that helps limit surface damage during heating.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Performs well in many organic and inorganic environments, depending on the operating conditions.
  • Heat Resistance: Suitable for furnace components and thermal processing equipment exposed to repeated heating.
  • Good Mechanical Strength: Provides dependable strength for industrial piping and tubing applications.
  • Fabrication Flexibility: Supports forming, machining and welding when suitable procedures are followed.
  • Long-Term Durability: Offers reliable service when the material matches the operating environment and maintenance requirements.
  • Wide Industrial Use: Used in chemical processing, heat exchangers, condensers, furnace equipment and power generation systems.

These properties make Inconel 600 a practical material choice for applications that require heat and oxidation resistance. The correct product form and dimensions depend on operating temperature, pressure, chemical exposure and relevant design standards.

Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes Standards

Standard What It Covers
ASTM B167 / ASME SB167Seamless nickel-chromium-iron pipe and tube
ASTM B163 / ASME SB163Seamless condenser and heat exchanger tube
ASTM B517 / ASME SB517Welded pipe in Alloy 600

Nickel alloy pipe is governed by ASTM and ASME B-series standards. Each lot passes a hydrostatic test or eddy current testing as the standard requires, plus flattening and flaring tests on tube. Positive material identification confirms nickel and chromium on the finished length, and third-party inspection is welcome at our works.

Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes Material and Grades

Alloy 600 is a single alloy, so the choices you make are about condition and form, not grade. The usual conditions are annealed, which gives the best corrosion and ductility balance, and hot-finished and annealed for heavier pipe. Cold-drawn tube is annealed after drawing.

Annealing is done in the region of 900–1100 °C, followed by rapid cooling. The exact temperature depends on the grain size your specification needs. Larger grains help creep resistance at high temperature, while finer grains help fatigue and forming.

Alloy 600 is not hardened by heat treatment. It gets stronger only through cold work, which is why drawn tube can be stronger than annealed pipe. If your specification needs a particular grain size or a stress-relieved condition, tell us at the enquiry stage.

Inconel 600 vs Inconel 601: Choosing Between Them

These two are close cousins, and drawings often name one when the other would also work.

Point Inconel 600 Inconel 601
Nickel72% min58 – 63%
Chromium14 – 17%21 – 25%
AluminiumNone1.0 – 1.7%
Best AtCaustic, chlorides, mixed corrosion and heatHot oxidation and scaling
Approx. Oxidation Limit in AirAbout 1100 °CAbout 1200 °C

Choose Inconel 600 when corrosion matters as much as heat, for example caustic service, chloride exposure or cryogenic-to-furnace temperature ranges. Choose Inconel 601 when the main enemy is scaling in hot, oxidizing air.

Heat Resistance, Corrosion Resistance and Limits of Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes

In clean, oxidizing air, Alloy 600 resists scaling up to about 1100 °C, which is why it is used in muffles, retorts and radiant tubes. Its high nickel content makes it practically immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking, and it handles caustic soda across a wide range of temperature and strength. It also resists carburization and nitriding better than stainless steel.

Know its limits before you buy. Sulfur is the main one. Above about 315 °C, sulfur compounds can embrittle nickel alloys through a low-melting nickel sulfide, so avoid sulfur-bearing atmospheres. Alloy 600 is also not suited to hot, strongly oxidizing acids, where Alloy 625 or C-276 are better picks.

In nuclear power, Alloy 600 was used for older pressurized water reactor steam generator tubing. It can suffer primary water stress corrosion cracking in that service, so newer designs use Alloy 690. Design codes list allowable stress for Alloy 600 up to about 650 °C. Above that, strength falls, and the alloy is used mainly where loads are light.

Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes Size and Weight Chart

Weight per metre = (OD − wall) × wall × 0.0266, with OD and wall in mm. This uses a density of 8.47 g/cm³. Treat the figures as estimates, because the wall tolerance moves the real weight.

Weight (kg/m) = (OD − Wall) × Wall × 0.0266

OD and wall are in mm. Multiply the result by the pipe or tube length to obtain the total weight.

Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes Manufacturers and Suppliers in India

Nickel alloys cost real money, so whoever sells them should be able to prove what the metal is. As a Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes Manufacturer, we make the pipe and keep the heat treatment and test records. As a Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Tubes Manufacturer, we do the same for tube.

If you are comparing Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes Suppliers in India, check three things. First, confirm the supplier is a manufacturer and not a reseller. Second, make sure the standard matches the product, since B167 covers pipe and B163 covers exchanger tube. Third, ask for a certificate showing the heat number and actual nickel content. We supply matching flanges, fittings and plate on the same order as a Nickel Alloy Inconel 600 Pipes and Tubes Supplier in India, so the paperwork lines up.
