What Are Nickel Alloy Seamless Pipes?
Nickel alloy seamless pipes are joint-free pipes made from alloys in which nickel is the main element, anywhere from about 30% to 99%. “Seamless” means the pipe is pierced from a solid billet and then rolled or drawn to size, so it has no weld line. The wall is uniform all the way round, and there is no seam to act as a weak spot under pressure, heat or corrosion.
Nickel stays tough at high and low temperatures and resists acids, alkalis and chloride cracking far better than carbon or stainless steel. Other elements fine-tune the alloy:
- Chromium fights oxidation and scaling.
- Molybdenum fights pitting and reducing acids.
- Copper helps in seawater and hydrofluoric acid.
- Iron keeps the cost down in heat-resistant grades.

What Is the Difference Between Nickel Alloy Seamless Pipes and Stainless Steel Seamless Pipes?
The short answer: stainless steel is iron with chromium and some nickel, while nickel alloy is built on nickel and keeps working where stainless corrodes or softens. Use stainless where grade 304 or 316 lasts. Step up to nickel alloy when chlorides, strong acids or heat shorten the life of stainless.
| Point | Nickel alloy seamless pipe | Stainless steel seamless pipe |
|---|---|---|
| Base metal | Nickel, about 30–99% | Iron with 16–26% chromium |
| Corrosion | Strong in reducing acids, chlorides, caustic | Good in mild and oxidising media |
| Stress corrosion cracking | High resistance | Chloride cracking can occur |
| Heat | Several grades keep strength and resist scaling at high temperature | Limited at the top end |
| Density | 7.94–8.89 g/cm³ | About 7.9–8.0 g/cm³ |
| Cost | Higher, driven by nickel and molybdenum | Lower |
| Common standards | ASTM B161, B167, B444, B622 | ASTM A312, A790 |
| Best for | Severe acid, sour gas, seawater, furnaces | General process, food, water, mild chemicals |
Nickel Alloy Seamless Pipes Chemical Composition
Each grade has a fixed chemical range set by its ASTM B standard. All values are in weight percent. A single value is a maximum, unless marked "min".

Available Sizes, Dimensions and Schedules
Nickel alloy seamless pipes follow the nominal pipe size (NPS) system. ASME B36.19M gives the "S" schedules (5S, 10S, 40S, 80S), and ASME B36.10M gives the heavier ones (160, XXS). A schedule is a wall-thickness code: for the same OD, a higher number means a thicker wall. Lengths are single random, double random or cut to your list. Sizes and walls outside the standard tables can be made to your drawing.

Nickel Alloy Seamless Pipes FAQs
Common questions about nickel alloy seamless pipe grades, acids, seawater service, welding, dimensions, and supply.
Which nickel alloy pipe grade suits hydrochloric acid?
Hastelloy B2 or B3 handle pure hydrochloric acid at all concentrations, provided the acid has no oxidising contaminants such as ferric or cupric ions. If oxidisers are present, switch to Hastelloy C276 or C22.
Which grade works best for seawater and offshore lines?
Inconel 625 gives the best resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and combines it with high strength. Monel 400 is a proven choice for flowing seawater, and Incoloy 825 suits mixed service where acids are also present.
How do I choose between Inconel 625 and Hastelloy C276?
Choose Inconel 625 when strength and high-temperature service matter, and Hastelloy C276 when the fluid is a severe mix of acids or wet chlorine. Both resist sour gas, so the process fluid and temperature should settle the choice.
When should I pick Nickel 201 over Nickel 200?
Pick Nickel 201 for service above 315 °C. It has a much lower carbon limit (0.02% against 0.15%), so it does not form brittle graphite at high temperature. Nickel 200 is fine below that limit.
Can nickel alloy seamless pipes be welded on site?
Yes. Most grades weld well by the TIG (GTAW) process with a matching filler such as ERNiCrMo-3 for Inconel 625 or ERNiCrMo-4 for Hastelloy C276. Clean the joint of oil, paint and marking inks, because sulphur and lead cause cracking. Keep heat input and interpass temperature low.
Do these pipes need heat treatment after welding or bending?
Most grades go into service as welded. Heavy cold bending or forming can call for re-annealing, and creep-grade 800H and 800HT need the right grain size to keep their high-temperature strength. Ask us for grade-specific advice before you fabricate.
What tolerances apply to OD and wall thickness?
ASTM B829 sets OD and wall tolerances by size and finishing method. Cold drawn pipe holds tighter tolerances than hot finished pipe. Tell us if your drawing needs closer limits.
What sizes and schedules can you supply?
We supply the standard NPS sizes and schedules shown in the dimension table above, to ASME B36.19M and B36.10M. Other ODs and walls can be made to your drawing, and popular sizes sit in ready stock, subject to availability.
What decides the price per metre?
Grade is the biggest factor, because nickel and molybdenum content drive the cost. Wall thickness, OD, hot finished or cold drawn, quantity, testing and certificate type also move the price.
Which certificates come with the pipes?
Every order includes an EN 10204 3.1 certificate with chemical and mechanical test results. We issue 3.2 on request, and third-party inspection is available if your project requires it.
Are you a Nickel Alloy Seamless Pipes manufacturer or supplier?
We are both. We manufacture at our facility near Mumbai and supply from stock and fresh production through our export office in Mumbai. You deal with one source for the pipe, the tests and the shipment.
Do you export nickel alloy seamless pipes?
Yes. We ship to 85+ countries and prepare the export documents, certificates and packing to suit each destination.
How are the pipes tested before dispatch?
Tests follow the ASTM B product standard and B829. They cover chemical analysis, tensile properties, a hydrostatic or non-destructive electric test, and visual and dimensional checks. Third-party inspectors can witness them on request.
