What Are Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes?
Nickel alloy seamless tubes are joint-free tubes made from alloys in which nickel is the main element, usually 30% to 99%. A tube differs from a pipe in how it is sized: tubes are ordered by exact outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness, and they are held to tighter tolerances because they must fit tube sheets, baffles and fittings closely.
The tube is pierced or extruded from a solid billet, then cold drawn to size with annealing between passes. This gives a smooth surface, an even wall and good heat transfer. Nickel keeps its toughness at high and low temperatures and resists acids, alkalis and chloride stress cracking far better than carbon or stainless steel. Chromium adds oxidation resistance, molybdenum adds pitting resistance, and copper helps in seawater and hydrofluoric acid.

What Is the Difference Between Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes and Nickel Alloy Seamless Pipes?
The short answer: tubes are sized by exact OD and wall and held to tighter tolerances, while pipes are sized by nominal pipe size (NPS) and schedule and are made to carry fluid. Use tubes for heat exchangers, condensers and instrumentation, and pipes for process piping.
| Point | Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes | Nickel Alloy Seamless Pipes |
|---|---|---|
| Sizing | OD and wall in mm or BWG | NPS and schedule |
| Tolerances | Tighter on OD and wall | Wider, per pipe standard |
| Common size range | Small to medium OD, thin walls | Small to large, thicker walls |
| Surface | Smooth, often bright annealed | Pickled, general finish |
| Main job | Heat transfer, instrumentation, boiler and furnace service | Carrying process fluid |
| Common standards | ASTM B163, B444, B622 | ASTM B161, B165, B167 |
| Joined by | Expanding or welding into tube sheets, tube fittings | Butt welding, flanges |
| Typical use | Heat exchangers, condensers, sampling lines | Process, transfer and utility lines |

Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes Size and Weight Chart
Weight depends on OD, wall thickness and alloy density. Inconel 625 has a density of about 8.44 g/cm³, so we use this formula:
OD and wall are in mm. Example: 1 in OD × 2.11 mm wall (BWG 14) is (25.4 − 2.11) × 2.11 × 0.02652 = 1.303 kg/m. Multiply by length for total weight. For other alloys, swap in the factor from the second table below.

Available Sizes, Dimensions and Tolerances
Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes are ordered by OD and wall thickness, with the wall given in BWG gauge or in mm. Heat exchanger tube ODs run from 1/4 in to 2 in (6.35 to 50.8 mm) in the tables, and other ODs and metric walls can be quoted on request. A higher BWG number means a thinner wall. Confirm the wall against the design code and the tube-joining method.
| BWG | Wall (in) | Wall (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 0.134 | 3.40 |
| 12 | 0.109 | 2.77 |
| 14 | 0.083 | 2.11 |
| 16 | 0.065 | 1.65 |
| 18 | 0.049 | 1.24 |
| 20 | 0.035 | 0.89 |
| 22 | 0.028 | 0.71 |
| 24 | 0.022 | 0.56 |
Tolerances on OD, wall and length follow ASTM B829 and the product standard. Cold-drawn tube holds tighter limits than hot-finished tube, so tell us if your drawing needs closer control.

Export packing and shipping documentation are handled according to the order and destination, supporting the movement of nickel alloy seamless tubes from India to international project locations.
Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes FAQs
Common questions about nickel alloy seamless tube grades, seawater service, BWG walls, tubesheets, and supply.
Which nickel alloy tube grade should I choose?
Choose by the fluid. Inconel 625 suits seawater and sour gas, Incoloy 825 suits sulphuric and phosphoric acid, Hastelloy C276 suits mixed acids and wet chlorine, Monel 400 suits seawater and hydrofluoric acid, and Nickel 200 suits caustic soda.
When should I choose seamless tubes over welded tubes?
Choose seamless tubes for heat exchangers, high-pressure lines and any duty where the absence of a weld seam gives a safety margin. Welded tubes can cost less in larger sizes and lighter walls.
Which grade works best for seawater condensers?
Monel 400 has a long record in flowing seawater. Inconel 625 and Incoloy 825 are stronger choices where the water is warm, polluted or high in chloride.
How do cold-drawn and hot-finished tubes differ?
Cold-drawn tubes have tighter OD and wall control and a smoother surface, which suits heat exchangers and small bores. Hot-finished tubes suit larger diameters and heavier walls.
Is the wall specified in BWG or mm?
Either. Heat exchanger drawings usually give BWG, and metric drawings give mm. Quote both if you can, because BWG gives a nominal wall that converts to mm as shown in the table above.
How should I join tubes to a tubesheet?
Tubes can be expanded, seal-welded or strength-welded into the tubesheet. For welding, use a matching filler such as ERNiCrMo-3 for Inconel 625 or ERNiCrMo-4 for Hastelloy C276. Keep the joint clean of oil, paint and marking ink, and use low heat input.
Can nickel alloy tubes be used in sour service?
Alloys such as Inconel 625, Incoloy 825 and Hastelloy C276 are widely used in sour service under NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156, provided the material meets the condition and hardness limits in that standard. State the sour-service requirement when you enquire.
What tolerances apply to OD and wall?
ASTM B829 and the product standard set them. Cold-drawn tube holds tighter limits than hot-finished tube, and the limits depend on tube size.
What sizes can I order?
The tables above cover OD 1/4 in to 2 in (6.35 to 50.8 mm) in common BWG walls. Other ODs, walls and lengths can be quoted on request, and popular sizes sit in ready stock, subject to availability.
How do I calculate the weight of an order?
Use Weight (kg/m) = (OD − Wall) × Wall × factor, with OD and wall in mm and the factor from the alloy table above. Multiply by length and quantity. Real weight varies slightly with wall tolerance.
What affects the price of Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes?
Grade is the main factor, because nickel and molybdenum content move the cost. OD, wall, finish, testing, quantity, inspection and freight also count.
Which certificates and tests come with the tubes?
Each order carries an EN 10204 3.1 certificate showing chemistry and mechanical results. A 3.2 certificate and third-party inspection are available on request.
Are you a manufacturer or a supplier of Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes?
We are both. We manufacture near Mumbai and supply ready stock of popular sizes from the same location, subject to availability.
Do you export Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes, and how are they packed?
Yes. We ship to 85+ countries from our Mumbai export office, and we pack the tubes to suit sea or air freight and your project needs.
