What Are Copper Nickel Welded Pipes?
Copper Nickel Welded Pipes are pipes made by forming copper-nickel strip or plate into a round and joining the edges along one straight seam by an automatic arc welding process. The alloy carries 10% to 30% nickel, plus iron and manganese, and it resists seawater corrosion, erosion and marine fouling.
Welded construction removes the size limit of seamless mills. It also gives thin, even walls at a lower cost per metre. After welding, the pipe is annealed and tested as the standard requires, so the weld performs like the rest of the pipe. The main alloys are 90/10 and 70/30, named for their copper-to-nickel split.

Copper Nickel Welded Pipes FAQs
Common questions about copper nickel welded pipe alloys, weld quality, seawater flow, dimensions, and supply.
Which alloy should I choose, 90/10 or 70/30?
Pick 90/10 for normal seawater flow and cost-sensitive jobs. Pick 70/30 when flow is fast, the water is warm or polluted, or the line is critical.
When should I choose welded copper nickel pipe over seamless?
Choose welded pipe for large diameters, thin walls and moderate pressure, where it costs less. Choose seamless for small bores and higher pressure.
Is the weld as corrosion resistant as the pipe?
Yes, when the pipe is welded correctly and annealed as the standard requires. The matching copper-nickel filler gives the weld similar seawater resistance to the parent metal.
What flow velocity can the pipes handle?
As a design guide, 90/10 handles seawater up to about 3.5 m/s and 70/30 up to about 4.5 m/s. Higher speeds can wear the protective film, so your designer should check the limit against the code.
How do I weld copper nickel pipes on site?
Use a matching filler such as ERCuNi, a clean joint and a qualified procedure. Keep the joint free of oil, sulphur and lead.
Can copper nickel be connected to steel pipe?
Yes, but the two metals form a galvanic pair in seawater, and steel can corrode faster. Use insulating flanges or sleeves, or a coated steel section, near the joint.
What tolerances apply to OD and wall?
ASTM B467 sets them. Tell us your limits at enquiry, and we will quote against them.
What sizes can I order?
The charts above cover NPS 8 to 48. Other sizes and walls can be quoted on request.
How do I calculate the weight of an order?
Use Weight (kg/m) = (OD − Wall) × Wall × 0.02809, with OD and wall in mm. Multiply by length and quantity. Real weight varies slightly with wall tolerance.
What affects the price of Copper Nickel Welded Pipes?
Alloy is the biggest factor, since copper and nickel prices move the cost, and 70/30 costs more than 90/10. Size, wall, testing, inspection, quantity and freight also count.
Which certificates come with the pipes?
Each order carries an EN 10204 3.1 certificate showing chemistry and mechanical results. A 3.2 certificate and third-party inspection are available on request.
Is every pipe tested before it ships?
Welded pipe is tested as ASTM B467 requires, by hydrostatic test or by electric test. Tell us your preferred test when you enquire.
Are you a manufacturer or a supplier of Copper Nickel Welded Pipes?
We are both. We manufacture near Mumbai and supply ready stock of popular sizes from the same location, subject to availability.
Do you export Copper Nickel Welded Pipes, and how are they packed?
Yes. We ship to 85+ countries from our Mumbai export office, and we pack the pipes to suit sea or air freight and your project needs.
