What Are Nickel Alloy Boiler Tubes?
Nickel Alloy Boiler Tubes are seamless or welded tubes made from nickel-based alloys and designed for boiler, heat-recovery, and high-temperature heat-transfer service. They combine good strength at elevated temperatures with resistance to oxidation, scaling, and corrosive gases, making them suitable where conventional carbon or low-alloy steel tubes may face faster degradation.
These tubes are commonly used in superheaters, reheaters, waste heat boilers, heat recovery systems, and high-temperature process equipment. Depending on the grade, nickel alloy tubes can withstand demanding environments containing steam, sulphur compounds, chlorides, and other corrosive elements.
Common grades include Nickel 200, Nickel 201, Inconel 600, Inconel 625, Incoloy 800, Incoloy 800H, Incoloy 800HT, and Incoloy 825. The correct grade depends on operating temperature, pressure, heat-transfer conditions, corrosion exposure, and the applicable material standard.

What Is the Difference Between Nickel Alloy Boiler Tubes and Stainless Steel Boiler Tubes?
The short answer: stainless steel boiler tubes (such as TP304H and TP347H) cost less and serve well up to moderate temperatures, while nickel alloy boiler tubes keep their strength and resist corrosion at higher temperature and in dirtier gas. Use stainless where it lasts, and step up to nickel alloy when creep, scaling or chloride and sulphur attack shorten tube life.
| Point | Nickel Alloy Boiler Tubes | Stainless Steel Boiler Tubes |
|---|---|---|
| Base metal | Nickel, about 30–99% | Iron with 16–26% chromium |
| Creep strength | High; 800H and 800HT are built for it | Good at moderate temperatures |
| Oxidation | Tight, stable oxide skin | Good, but scale can flake in cycling |
| Chloride and sulphur attack | Strong resistance | Weaker; stress cracking can occur |
| Density | 7.94–8.89 g/cm³ | About 7.9–8.0 g/cm³ |
| Cost | Higher | Lower |
| Common standards | ASTM B163, B167, B407 | ASTM A213 (TP304H, TP347H) |
| Typical use | Superheaters, reheaters, waste heat boilers, severe flue gas | General boiler and power plant tubing |

Nickel Alloy Boiler Tubes Size and Weight Chart
Weight depends on OD, wall thickness and alloy density. Inconel 625 has a density of about 8.44 g/cm³, so we use this formula:
OD and wall are in mm. Example: 50.8 mm OD × 4.0 mm wall is (50.8 − 4.0) × 4.0 × 0.02652 = 4.96 kg/m. Multiply by length for total weight. For other alloys, swap in the factor from the second table below.
| OD (mm) | OD (in) | Wall 3.2 mm (kg/m) | Wall 4.0 mm (kg/m) | Wall 5.0 mm (kg/m) | Wall 6.3 mm (kg/m) |
