What Are Super Duplex Seamless Pipes?
Super Duplex Seamless Pipes are seamless stainless steel pipes made from duplex steel with a PREN of 40 or higher. PREN, the pitting resistance equivalent number, is a rough index of pitting resistance: Cr + 3.3 × Mo + 16 × N. Standard 2205 duplex sits near 35, so super duplex is a clear step up.
The steel holds about half austenite and half ferrite. High chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen give it very strong resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress cracking. Its yield strength is more than three times that of 316L, so walls can be thin for high pressure. The pipe is pierced from a solid billet, so there is no weld seam, and it is solution annealed and quenched to lock in the right balance of phases.

Super Duplex Seamless Pipes Material and Grades
Pick the grade by the fluid, the chloride level and the temperature. The table lists the grades and the matching forging grades.
| Grade | UNS | EN number | Name | PREN (about) | Matching forging | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S32750 | S32750 | 1.4410 | Super duplex 2507 | 42 | A182 F53 | Subsea, seawater, sour service |
| S32760 | S32760 | 1.4501 | Super duplex | 41 | A182 F55 | Offshore and aggressive chloride duty |

What Is the Difference Between Super Duplex Seamless Pipes and Duplex Steel Seamless Pipes?
The short answer: super duplex has more chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen than standard duplex, which raises PREN from about 35 to above 40. It resists pitting at much higher temperatures and carries more load, but costs more. Use standard duplex for moderate chloride duty and super duplex for hot seawater, sour gas and severe brine.
| Point | Super Duplex Seamless Pipes | Duplex Steel Seamless Pipes (2205) |
|---|---|---|
| PREN | 40 and above | About 35 |
| Chromium | 24 to 26% | 22 to 23% |
| Molybdenum | 3 to 5% | 3 to 3.5% |
| Yield strength | 550 MPa minimum | 450 MPa minimum |
| Critical pitting temperature (typical) | About 80°C | About 35°C |
| Temperature limit | Keep below about 250°C | Keep below about 300°C |
| Cost | Higher | Lower |
| Typical use | Subsea, hot seawater, sour service | General process, cool seawater |

Super Duplex Seamless Pipes Size and Weight Chart
Weight depends on OD and wall thickness. Super duplex has a density of about 7.80 g/cm³, so we use this formula:
OD and wall are in mm. Example: NPS 2 Sch 160 is (60.3 − 8.74) × 8.74 × 0.02450 = 11.04 kg/m. Multiply by length for total weight. Walls for each schedule are listed in the next section.
| NPS | OD (mm) | Sch 40S (kg/m) | Sch 80S (kg/m) | Sch 160 (kg/m) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1/2" | 21.3 | 1.26 | 1.61 | 1.93 |
| 1" | 33.4 | 2.49 | 3.22 | 4.21 |
| 2" | 60.3 | 5.40 | 7.43 | 11.04 |
| 3" | 88.9 | 11.22 | 15.17 | 21.21 |
| 4" | 114.3 | 15.97 | 22.18 | 33.32 |
| 6" | 168.3 | 28.08 | 42.28 | 67.12 |
| 8" | 219.1 | 42.27 | 64.22 | 110.54 |
| 10" | 273.1 | 59.92 | 81.02 | 171.22 |
| 12" | 323.9 | 73.40 | 96.83 | 237.21 |
Available Sizes, Dimensions and Schedules
Super Duplex Seamless Pipes follow ASME B36.19M for Sch 10S, 40S and 80S, and ASME B36.10M for Sch 160. High pressure is common in subsea and wellhead work, so heavy schedules matter. Other sizes and walls can be quoted on request. Because super duplex is strong, your engineer may choose a lighter schedule than 316L would need. Confirm the wall against the design code.
| NPS | OD (mm) | Sch 10S (mm) | Sch 40S (mm) | Sch 80S (mm) | Sch 160 (mm) |

| 12" | 323.9 | 4.57 | 9.53 | 12.70 | 33.32 |
Tolerances follow ASTM A999. Wall may run up to 12.5% under nominal, and the OD limit is +0.4 / −0.8 mm up to NPS 1-1/2, ±0.8 mm above that up to NPS 4, and +1.6 / −0.8 mm from NPS 4 to 8.

Super Duplex Seamless Pipes FAQs
Common questions about super duplex seamless pipe grades, seawater service, welding, dimensions, and supply.
Which super duplex grade should I choose?
S32750 is the usual choice and the most widely stocked. Pick S32760 when your project specification names it, and S32550 where copper helps in acid service.
When should I choose super duplex over standard duplex?
Choose super duplex when seawater is warm, chloride is high, the fluid is sour or the pressure calls for a thinner, stronger wall. For cool, mild chloride duty, 2205 is often enough.
What PREN should I look for?
Super duplex grades have a PREN of 40 or higher by common definition. Our grades fall at or around that mark by typical chemistry.
What is the maximum service temperature?
Keep super duplex below about 250°C. Long exposure at higher temperatures can make it brittle. Your engineer should check the limit for the grade and code.
How should I weld super duplex pipes?
Use a matching super duplex filler, controlled heat input and a low interpass temperature, under a qualified procedure. Post-weld heat treatment is not normally applied, and weld phase balance should be checked.
Is super duplex suitable for sour service?
Yes, within the limits of NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156, which set hardness, temperature and H2S limits. State the sour-service requirement when you enquire.
Can super duplex be used with cathodic protection?
Yes, but with care. High stress combined with hydrogen from cathodic protection can cause cracking, so your designer should check strain and potential limits.
What tolerances apply to OD and wall?
ASTM A999 sets them. Wall may run up to 12.5% under nominal, and OD limits depend on the pipe size.
What sizes can I order?
The tables above cover NPS 1/2 to 12 in Sch 10S, 40S, 80S and 160. Other sizes and walls can be quoted on request.
How do I calculate the weight of an order?
Use Weight (kg/m) = (OD − Wall) × Wall × 0.02450, with OD and wall in mm. Multiply by length and quantity. Real weight varies slightly with wall tolerance.
What affects the price of Super Duplex Seamless Pipes?
Grade is the main factor, because nickel, molybdenum, chromium and nitrogen content move the cost. Size, wall, finish, testing, quantity, inspection and freight also count.
Which certificates and tests come with the pipes?
Each order carries an EN 10204 3.1 certificate showing chemistry and mechanical results. A 3.2 certificate, third-party inspection and ASTM A923 or G48 tests are available on request.
Are you a manufacturer or a supplier of Super Duplex Seamless Pipes?
We are both. We manufacture near Mumbai and supply ready stock of popular sizes from the same location, subject to availability.
Do you export Super Duplex Seamless Pipes, and how are they packed?
Yes. We ship to 85+ countries from our Mumbai export office, and we pack the pipes to suit sea or air freight and your project needs.
