ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes are seamless chromium-molybdenum pipes used in high-temperature applications. Their chromium and molybdenum content helps maintain strength under heat and improves resistance to oxidation. We supply pipes according to ASTM A335 / ASME SA335 specifications, with sizes and wall thicknesses based on project needs. Our ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and applicable TÜV certifications support our focus on quality, while EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates help provide material traceability.
What Are ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes?
ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes are seamless chromium-molybdenum steel pipes designed for high-temperature and high-pressure applications. Also identified by UNS K11597, P11 contains approximately 1.25% chromium and 0.5% molybdenum, along with silicon and other elements that contribute to its performance under heat.
Each element serves a purpose. Chromium improves resistance to oxidation, molybdenum helps the steel retain strength at elevated temperatures, and silicon supports resistance to scaling. These properties make P11 pipes suitable for boiler systems, steam lines, refinery equipment, and power plants. They can also be processed for bending, flanging, and fusion welding using suitable procedures, making them practical for industrial piping installation and fabrication.

ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes Standards
The main reference is ASTM A335 / ASME SA335, which covers seamless ferritic alloy pipe for high-temperature service. Its general rules on tolerances, marking and testing come from ASTM A999. Pipe sizes follow ASME B36.10M.
Related parts keep the grade consistent across the system. ASTM A213 T11 is the tube version for boilers and exchangers, ASTM A234 WP11 covers butt-weld fittings, and ASTM A182 F11 covers forged flanges. For very large welded sizes, ASTM A691 1¼CR is the plate-based option.
Teams working to European codes can use EN 10216-2, which covers 13CrMo4-5.
Every lot is tested for chemistry, tensile strength and flattening, then pressed through a hydrostatic test or NDE as the code demands. A positive material identification step checks chromium and molybdenum on the pipe itself, and a third-party inspector can witness the work if you ask.
ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes Material and Grades
P11 belongs to the low-chrome end of the A335 family, below P22 and well below P9 or P91. ASTM A335 allows 1.00–1.50% chromium and 0.44–0.65% molybdenum, with silicon of 0.50–1.00%, which is higher than in P22.
That extra silicon is the reason P11 handles oxidation a little better than its chrome content suggests. It also means P11 is usually a shade easier to weld than the higher-chrome pipes, with less risk of hard, brittle weld zones.
Buyers who specify P11 usually do so for design temperatures up to about 550 °C. Beyond that, P22 or P91 normally takes over. If your drawing adds hardness limits or impact testing, mention it when you enquire so the heat can be chosen and tested to suit.
ASTM A335 P11 vs P22 Alloy Steel Pipes
These two are the closest pair on any boiler or refinery line list, and the choice comes down to heat and hydrogen.
P22 carries about 2¼% chromium and 1% molybdenum, so it resists scaling and creep better and sits higher on the temperature scale. P11 carries about half that chromium and molybdenum, so it costs less and welds with less fuss.
Both reach the same minimum strength at room temperature, 415 MPa tensile and 205 MPa yield. The difference appears when the pipe gets hot, because P22 is allowed a higher stress at high temperature. Pick P11 when your design temperature fits within its range and you want an economical, easily fabricated pipe. Pick P22 when the line runs hotter, carries more hydrogen or needs longer life under creep.
Elevated Temperature and Corrosion Performance of ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes
P11 does well in hot steam and process service. Its chromium and silicon form a protective scale in air, and the molybdenum slows creep, which is the slow stretch metal suffers under heat and load. Most designs use it up to around 550 °C.
In hot hydrogen service, it outperforms carbon steel and C-½Mo, within the limits of the Nelson curves. Sulfur resistance is moderate, so for sulfur-heavy crude streams a higher-chrome pipe such as P5 or P9 is the safer choice.
One long-term matter deserves attention. In extended service between roughly 375 and 575 °C, some chrome-moly steels can lose toughness, a change known as temper embrittlement. Controlling tramp elements in the steel helps, and many refinery specifications set limits for them. If that applies to your unit, tell us before you order.
For welding, preheat of about 150–200 °C and post-weld heat treatment of about 700–750 °C are typical. Your welding procedure specification has the final word.
P11 is not stainless. It will rust in damp air, so keep pipe varnished or painted until it goes into service.

|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | 415 MPa (60 ksi) min |
| Yield Strength | 205 MPa (30 ksi) min |
| Elongation (longitudinal) | 30% min |

ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes Sizes, Dimensions and Schedules
Our P11 pipes run from ½" to 24" NB. Light schedules such as 20 and 40 fit lower-pressure steam and heater lines, while Sch 80, 160 and XXS go to high-pressure headers and main steam. The right wall comes from your design pressure and temperature, and we can help you check it.
Where a standard size will not do, we can make odd OD and wall pairings to your drawing. Pipes ship in single random, double random or cut lengths, with plain, beveled or threaded ends. A varnish or paint coat is applied before dispatch to keep rust off during transit and storage.
Common Materials Related to ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes
When planning a high-temperature piping system, material grades must match the operating conditions and engineering specifications. Along with P11 alloy steel pipes, related grades and piping components may be required for boilers, steam lines, and refinery installations.
ASTM A335 P11: A chromium-molybdenum alloy steel grade containing approximately 1.25% chromium and 0.5% molybdenum, used in high-temperature piping.
ASTM A335 P5: A higher-chromium alloy steel grade considered for applications with specific oxidation and heat-resistance requirements.
ASTM A335 P9: A 9% chromium alloy steel grade used in selected high-temperature process systems.
ASTM A335 P22: A chromium-molybdenum grade widely specified for boilers, power plants, and refinery equipment.
ASTM A213 T11: A related alloy steel tube grade used in boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers.
ASTM A234 WP11 Fittings: Alloy steel elbows, tees, reducers, and other fittings for compatible piping systems.
ASTM A182 F11 Flanges: Forged alloy steel flanges used to connect pipes and equipment where the grade suits the design conditions.
As experienced ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes Suppliers, we understand the importance of matching each material to the correct product specification. Grade selection and compatibility should be confirmed against the project's design code, operating conditions, and material requirements.
ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes We Manufacture and Supply
We make P11 seamless pipe in hot finished and cold drawn forms, from small-bore lines to large headers, and we supply P11 tubes, fittings and flanges to go with it. This means a boiler package or heater job can be sourced as one lot with matching heat numbers. Annealing, normalizing and tempering, straightening, cutting and beveling are all done on our own premises. That is how we handle special lengths and end preparations quickly, and it is how every pipe stays linked to its heat. As an ASTM A335 P11 Alloy Steel Pipes Manufacturer, we also pack for your route, using bundles for local delivery and crates for export.
