What Are Stainless Steel Welded Tubes?

Stainless steel welded tubes are made by forming flat stainless steel strip or sheet into a round shape and joining the edges along the length. Unlike seamless tubes, they have a welded seam. The process allows good control over tube diameter, wall thickness, surface finish, and overall dimensions.

Production starts with stainless steel strip selected for the required grade and thickness. Forming rolls shape the material, and welding methods such as TIG, high-frequency, or laser welding join the edges. The tube can then undergo annealing, sizing, straightening, pickling, passivation, polishing, and cutting.

Manufacturers inspect the weld and may perform eddy current, hydrostatic, or ultrasonic testing according to the required standard. Welded tubes offer consistent dimensions and long lengths, making them suitable for heat exchangers, food processing, pharmaceutical, chemical, water, instrumentation, and general industrial applications.

Types of Stainless Steel Welded Tubes

Stainless steel welded tubes come in different grades and forms to suit requirements for corrosion resistance, temperature, strength, and surface finish. The right tube depends on the application, dimensions, welding method, and applicable standard.

  • 304 Welded Tubes: Suitable for food processing, water systems, construction, fabrication, and general industrial applications.
  • 304L Welded Tubes: Lower carbon content helps maintain corrosion resistance in welded areas and supports further fabrication.
  • 316 Welded Tubes: Molybdenum improves resistance to chlorides and chemicals, making the grade useful for marine and process applications.
  • 316L Welded Tubes: Offers good corrosion resistance and weldability for pharmaceutical, chemical, food, and marine systems.
  • 321 Welded Tubes: Titanium stabilization makes this grade suitable for elevated-temperature applications.
  • 347 Welded Tubes: Niobium stabilization supports performance in high-temperature welded service.
  • 904L Welded Tubes: High nickel and molybdenum content provides strong resistance to aggressive acids and corrosive environments.
  • Duplex Welded Tubes: Combine high strength with good corrosion resistance for demanding industrial and engineering applications.
  • Super Duplex Welded Tubes: Provide high strength and excellent chloride corrosion resistance for offshore, marine, and severe process environments.

A reliable stainless steel welded tubes manufacturer can supply these grades in different sizes, wall thicknesses, finishes, and specifications based on project requirements.

304 Welded Tubes, 316L Welded Tubes, Sanitary Tubes, Heat Exchanger Tubes, Polished Decorative Tubes, Square and Rectangular Tubes, Stainless Steel Welded Tubes Manufacturers and Suppliers in India

We are one of the stainless steel welded tubes manufacturers in India that dairy engineers, exchanger shops, and fabricators call when they want a clean weld and steady supply. Our yard near Mumbai holds common grades and sizes in stock, and we roll other sizes to order.

For heat transfer equipment, our ASTM A249 304, 316L, and 321 tubes serve condensers, exchangers, and boilers at a lower price than seamless. For milk, beer, juice, and pharma lines, our ASTM A270 sanitary tubes carry a ground-smooth bore and a bright finish. For general process and instrument work, our ASTM A269 tubes cover water, air, and mild chemicals.

For buildings and equipment, our ASTM A554 polished tubes form handrails, balustrades, gates, and frames in round, square, rectangular, and oval shapes. Grades 201, 202, and 430 serve dry indoor work at a lower cost.

As a stainless steel welded tubes supplier, we treat the finish and the cutting as part of the tube. We polish to the grit you choose, wrap polished tubes against scratches, cut to exact length, and cap every tube. Buyers comparing stainless steel welded tubes suppliers can send us the grade, OD or size, wall, finish, length, quantity, and port. We will reply with a price, a lead time, and the certificate type.

What Is the Difference Between Stainless Steel Welded Tubes and Stainless Steel Welded Pipes?

The difference is how you order them and how tight they run. You order a tube by exact outside diameter and wall thickness, and the mill holds tight limits and a better surface, so the tube fits fittings, ferrules, and tubesheets without play. You order a pipe by nominal size and schedule, and the mill allows wider limits, because the pipe's job is to carry fluid. A tube also comes in more shapes, including square, rectangular, and oval, while pipe is round.

Choose a welded tube for heat exchangers, instrument lines, sanitary systems, frames, and handrails. Choose a welded pipe for process lines sized by NPS.

Stainless Steel Welded Tubes Mechanical Properties

Mechanical properties show how much load the tube carries before it stretches (yield) or breaks (tensile). Values are minimum unless marked max.

220595 (655)65 (450)2530.5 HRC / 290 HBW

Grades 201 and 202 under ASTM A554 ship to the strength and hardness agreed in the order. Because the weld is part of the tube, design codes also give it a joint factor, often 0.85, so the allowed pressure can be lower than for seamless tube of the same wall. The mill test certificate lists the exact values for each heat.

Stainless Steel Welded Tube Size and Weight Chart

Tubes are ordered by outside diameter and wall thickness. The first chart covers popular round sizes with weight per metre and per 6 m length. The second covers square and rectangular sections. Weights use 304 stainless steel at 7.93 g/cm³. Tubes in 316 weigh about 1% more.

To work out the weight of any round size, use Weight (kg/m) = (OD − Wall) × Wall × 0.02491 for 304, with both values in mm.

Weight (kg/m) = (OD − Wall) × Wall × 0.02491

Square and rectangular weights use Weight (kg/m) = 0.00793 × 2 × Wall × (Side A + Side B − 2 × Wall), with values in mm. The result ignores corner radii, so real weights run slightly lower.

Weight (kg/m) = 0.00793 × 2 × Wall × (Side A + Side B − 2 × Wall)

Common Materials

The material grade determines how stainless steel welded tubes perform against corrosion, heat, chemicals, and fabrication stress. Stainless steel welded tubes suppliers can provide different grades depending on the service conditions, required finish, tube dimensions, and applicable standard.

304 / 304L (UNS S30400 / S30403): 304 works well for food equipment, water systems, architectural applications, and general fabrication. 304L uses lower carbon content, making it a practical choice for welded assemblies.

316 / 316L (UNS S31600 / S31603): Molybdenum gives these grades better resistance to salt, chlorides, and many cleaning chemicals. They suit marine, pharmaceutical, chemical, and process applications.

321: Titanium stabilization makes this grade suitable for welded components exposed to elevated temperatures.

347: Niobium stabilization helps maintain performance in high-temperature service.

904L (UNS N08904): Provides strong resistance to aggressive acidic environments and demanding chemical service.

Duplex 2205 (UNS S32205): Combines higher strength with good resistance to chloride corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.

201 / 202 (UNS S20100 / S20200): More economical grades for indoor and decorative applications where severe corrosion resistance is not required.

430 (UNS S43000): A magnetic ferritic grade used for appliances, trim, exhaust components, and other general applications.

Before ordering, confirm the grade, standard, surface finish, and tolerance so the tube matches the actual service requirements.
