Incoloy 825 vs 316L vs 904L vs Alloy 625: Choosing the Right Corrosion-Resistant Alloy
| Point | 316L | 904L | Incoloy 825 | Inconel 625 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nickel | 10 – 14% | 23 – 28% | 38 – 46% | 58% min |
| Approx. PREN | About 24 | About 35 | About 31 | About 51 |
| Min Yield | 170 MPa | 220 MPa | 241 MPa | 414 MPa (Grade 1) |
| Best At | General service | Moderate sulfuric acid | Sulfuric and phosphoric acid, chloride SCC | Seawater, strong chlorides, high strength |
| Relative Cost | Low | Medium | High | Highest |
Pick 825 when the fluid is acidic and may carry chlorides, and 904L is not enough or 625 is overkill. Pick 625 when pitting resistance in seawater matters most.
Corrosion Resistance and Temperature Limits of Incoloy 825 Pipes and Tubes
825 stands out in both reducing and oxidizing acids. It performs well in sulfuric acid across a range of strengths and temperatures, and in phosphoric acid, including the contaminated acid found in fertilizer plants. It also resists nitric acid and many organic acids.
With high nickel, it resists chloride stress corrosion cracking far better than 304 or 316. Its pitting resistance is moderate, with a PREN of about 31, so it is not the first choice for seawater piping. Use 625 or super duplex there.
Acid performance depends on concentration, temperature and impurities, so send your process data and we will help you check the match. Most designs keep 825 below about 540 °C. It is not suited to hot, strong hydrochloric acid or to oxidizing chloride solutions, where C-276 does better.

Incoloy 825 pipes and tubes are commonly supplied in an annealed condition, with heat treatment requirements depending on the product standard and specification. The alloy is generally suitable for welding without mandatory post-weld heat treatment in many applications, although the final procedure depends on service conditions and project requirements. Buyers should specify any additional requirements for intergranular corrosion testing, hardness limits, or third-party inspection when requesting a quotation.
Incoloy 825 Pipes and Tubes Manufacturers and Suppliers in India
Look closely at the standards on a supplier's page. B423 covers seamless pipe and tube only. Welded 825 follows B705 for pipe and B704 for tube. Pages that list B165 or call ERW pipe "B423" are mixing up standards. Also check the name. It is Incoloy 825, 2.4858 and N08825.
As an Incoloy 825 Pipes Manufacturer and an Incoloy 825 Tubes Manufacturer, we make the product and keep the heat treatment and test records. Buyers looking for Incoloy 825 Pipes and Tubes Suppliers in India can also ask us for flanges, fittings and plate in the same alloy. As an Incoloy 825 Pipes and Tubes Supplier in India, we keep grade and certificates matched across a package.
Incoloy 825 Pipes and Tubes Size and Weight Chart
Weight per metre = (OD − wall) × wall × 0.0256, with OD and wall in mm. This uses a density of 8.14 g/cm³. Treat the numbers as estimates, since wall tolerance moves the real weight.
OD and wall are in mm. Multiply the result by the pipe or tube length to obtain the total weight.
